Description

Here is the finished SteamPunk media PC. I just finished it today. I could do a few more things to it and make it better but frankly I'm over working on it LOL.

It is an immersion PC, running a basic ASUS motherboard, E8200 quad core processor, 320gb SATA hard drive in a submersible enclosure, 512mb Nvidia 8800GT video card.

The oil is a light medical oil called Ondina 15. It has good insulating properties without capacitance effect, and while it causes some plastics and rubber to harden it doesn't seem to damage any componentry.

I will increase the oil level a bit when I can buy more of it - it's expensive stuff!

The hard drive needed to be enclosed as they tend to fill with oil and not function even when the breather is plugged.

The PC had been running for well over a year in its previous guise, with zero component failure.

The switches on the front are the main power isolator and oil cooling pump (the gold ones), Power On and Reset (the silver ones). The Digitech valve over solid state amp has its own power switch and a second channel for PC or CD player.

The DVD ROM is a SATA one and is accessed behind the hood.

The oil cooler is made from household plumbing parts and an air conditioning condenser from a VN Commodore! LOL

Desktop image is by :icondustmeat: and is used without permission. Be sure to check out her awesome work!

For some reason Ubuntu 10 won't scale properly on the flat screen TV. The last thing I need to fix to be happy with it.

Operating system is Ubuntu 10.

*Edit*
Screen res was fixed by using HDMI2 port as it requires DVI to set size properly. Thanks Whirlpool!
